True Beauty Is When You Sing With Someone
We have heard the stories about bullying.
We have seen the tragic consequences of such cruelty – silent trauma, nervous breakdowns, suicides, school shootings.
It needs to stop.
And some people are doing something.
Take 16-year-old Charlotte for instance. She and her friend Jonathan, a 17-year-old who has been teased his entire life, stunned the “Britain’s Got Talent” audition with their opera duet.
When Jonathan came on stage with his scraggly hair and Hendrix t-shirt, the judges were already writing him off. Then he and Charlotte began to sing.
And they brought the house down.
Afterwards Jonathan was told he upstaged his partner and that perhaps he should go solo.
He replied, “I really didn’t think I’d be going up onstage today if I didn’t have Charlotte by my side. Charlotte has been a really big help for me, in terms of confidence.” He insisted that they will remain a duet.
Jonathan and Charlotte are both teenagers so I want to speak in particular to the youth who may be reading today. Is there someone in your school who doesn’t fit in? Are you a friend to the friendless? Are you cultivating a spirit of acceptance and kindness?
Beauty is not skin deep. It is HEART deep and we need to have eyes to see the beauty that resides in everyone.
And the willingness to add our voice to the song that is waiting to burst forth from the most unexpected places and people.
