Poems for Sunday – Lion of Sacrifice
like a caged animal
i paced within this prison
longing desperately to be
released
yet lashing out at
anything or
anyone
who came near
then You came
trying desperately to
unlock the door
as my claws made
jagged wounds against
your flesh
finally the lock
snapped and in that
brief moment of
triumph
You collapsed in
death
your life gathered
red about
You
i stepped cautiously
warily from the door
and went to lay
down by your side
caressing your bloody
cheek with one
huge paw while
weeping large
gentle
tears of
gratefulness
