The Desert Inn(keeper)

The realm of God knows no boundaries.

God does not walk with us up to the edge of the wilderness and say,

“Okay, You go in. I’ll meet you on the other side.”

Rather, God is in the wilderness long before we get there,

straightening out the crooked path,

preparing the beaks of birds and the veins of rocks.

We wander,

hungry and thirsty,

sure that we are forgotten, and suddenly,

there is the inn.

God stands at the door smiling.

We enter the coolness,

partake of the offerings of earth and sky, and

we are comforted again.
