I wrote the following when I was 17 years old, soon after I started driving. When I reread these Beatitudes recently, they were a good reminder to me as I strive to be a slow (and kind) mover.
Blessed are those who strive to be considerate drivers at all times,
For they are an example to others.
Blessed are those who do not shout obscenities out of the window,
For they shall make no enemies.
Blessed are those who resist the temptation to drive over the speed limit,
Because laws are not made to be broken.
Blessed are those who are not in too big of a hurry to see God’s Creation,
For they will see even greater beauty.
Blessed are those who decide not to turn their music up full blast,
For we are to be separate, the quiet people.
Blessed are those who strive to obey all laws of the road, including the Golden Rule,
For they shine a light to others.
Blessed are those who stop to help a stranded motorist or someone by the road,
Because help is always needed.
Blessed are you when you try to do all of these things and more,
Because as a Christian on the Road of Life,
Isn’t Christ your driver?
